With all the movie download sites and services out there, it can be a little crazy trying to track down who has what movie or TV show available at any given time… Is it cheaper to get my movie from Amazon or from iTunes? Does Netflix have it available yet? If not, will they have it soon? And where can I get my movie on DVD or Blu-ray?

Movie piracy is an issue that has faced the movie industry for many years. Evolving from bootleg video tapes and DVDs, to online streaming and illegal movie downloads, piracy is still going strong. UK Film Council chief executive John Woodward said, “Film piracy is the single largest threat facing the UK film industry today. We have to act now to tackle this escalating problem.” With movie piracy costing the industry a staggering $20 billion a year, what are they doing to try and combat it?

If you’ve ever tried to track down a particular movie trailer online, you know that it can be a hit or miss proposition. You want to see the trailer in all it’s HD glory, but you sometimes have to sift through a lot of junk before you can find it.

Well, the results are in, and if you’re anything like me, the Oscar ceremony has inspired you see A LOT of movies. Though some of the movies nominated for Oscars are still in theaters, most are not. And, the ones that are, won’t be for long. So, that means…

CBS Interactive is fighting a lawsuit brought against it’s subsidiary, CNET, that would block the technology website from covering and linking to P2P sharing software. The suit, brought by more than a dozen R&B and hip hop artists, alleges that CNET’s reporting encourages consumers to break copyright laws.

In the ongoing battle between Hollywood and the P2P movie download pirates, there’s a knight in shining armor that you may not have even heard of. Billed as the embodiment of the “pay once, view anywhere” ideal, UltraViolet has lofty aspirations. And with the backing of most of the major studios, cable companies and telcos, as well as services like Netflix and Vudu, it looks like it has the potential as well. But is it really the piracy killer for the movie industry? Is UltraViolet the movie industry’s file sharing holy grail; a “killer-app” that has been so elusive to the music industry?
